PEMRA Implements Ban on Live Coverage of Rallies Ahead of Imran Khan’s Court Appearance
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Monday implemented a ban on live and recorded coverage of rallies and public gatherings in Islamabad, as former prime minister Imran Khan prepares to appear in court.
The ban extends to public meetings and rallies in Islamabad specifically for March 27, and satellite TV channels that violate the instructions risk having their licenses revoked.
PEMRA has stated that the live broadcast of violent mobs and attacks on law enforcement agencies can spread chaos and panic.
Imran Khan, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is seeking interim bail in five cases related to vandalism in the judicial complex. He departed for Islamabad on the same day, and held a meeting with party leadership and the legal team to discuss the matter.
